The road to Groenriviersmond Groen River, and its mouth Groenriviersmond

HOW TO GET THERE
(GPS: 30 51S 17 33E)
Enter Garies from the N7. Continue through the town and a further 70km along a dirt road.

ORIGINS OF THE NAME
Litterally translate as 'Mouth of the Green River'.

SOME DETAIL
What appear to be a neglected village is in fact a number of holiday homes of (mainly) local farmers and very popular during holiday seasons. During spring the abundance of wildflowers is yet another good reason to visit.

There are no facilities other than toilets in a not so well defined campsite. A sign refers to permits, yet do not indicate where it can be obtained.

In 1988 a lighthouse was constructed here that beam a single white flash every 5 seconds.

Area to be incorporated into the proposed new, ecologically important, Groen-Spoeg National Park.
