Namaqualand Towns: NIEUWOUDTVILLE "The Bulb Capitol of the World"
HOW TO GET THERE (GPS: 31 23S 19 06E) From Vanrhynsdorp, follow the R27 over the Vanrhynspass to Nieuwoudtville. HISTORY The town of Nieuwoudtville was developed on land donated to the Dutch Reformed Church in 1897. Nieuwoudtville has a visible higher rainfall than the surrounding areas, and within a radius of 15 miles, is surrounded by four different vegetation areas: the Hantam, Bushmanland, the Knersvlakte and Namaqualand. The town, famous for its astonishing wild flowers during spring and autumn, have the richest concentration of bulb species in the world and is characterized by its sandstone buildings.
