HOW TO GET THERE (GPS: 29 35S 17 47E) On the N7 just north of Springbok. HISTORY Founded in 1860 by the Cape Copper Company A narrow guage railway line was built between Port Nolloth and the mining area (1869 to 1876). The line was in use until 1943 when it was replaced by road transport and the rails removed. ORIGINS OF THE NAME Two sources differ on the origins of the name. One source refer to the name as from the Khoi and refers to a bad road. Another source refer to the name as from the Nama and means "the water behind the little hill".
